How grid-tied solar works on the Sunshine Coast:

1. Solar panel cells absorb the coastal sun’s clean, renewable energy.

2. Micro-Inverters convert solar energy from direct current to alternating current where it is then sent to your home’s electrical panel for for everyday use.

3. Your electricity usage is regulated through a smart meter measures your power usage as well as any excess power generated which can then be sold back to your utility provider to reduce your hydro bill through a process called net-metering.

4. Your solar PV system comes with lifetime system monitoring on your smartphone or computer, giving you real-time updates about your system’s performance.

5. Your home can be supplemented with additional backup power via home battery backup or backup generator to ensure that you always have power, even during a blackout period when no electricity is being produced by your solar PV system or the utility grid.

GET CHARGED UP WITH AN EV CHARGER

We provide installation, maintenance, repair and upgrades for both Level 2 and Tesla chargers. We will supply and install the ideal charger for your electric vehicle.

Solar Monitoring:

Streamline Renewables solar installations include lifetime system monitoring. This monitoring will show you real-time power production of your system – right down to each individual solar module.

Monitoring can be access through your smart-phone, tablet, or computer. You can track power production down to a 5 minute cycle.

Grid-tie systems are monitored using a BC Hydro Net-Metering account. Setting up your Net-Metering account is the final step of our turn key renewable energy system solution.

The BC Hydro Net-Metering account tracks all excess solar energy developed, and returns it to you in months where solar production slows, thus reducing your bill. No extra energy storage is necessary, however it is optional.

As a net metering customer, the electricity you generate is first used by your home or business. Your net consumption of electricity from BC Hydro is recorded under Inflow. When you generate more electricity than you consume, the excess generation is fed back to the grid and shown under Outflow.

1. Electricity inflow is 786 kWh
2. Electricity outflow is 1,701 kWh
3. Previous Balance of generation is 132 kWh
4. Total amount of electricity to be charged to customer is 786 – 1,701 – 132 = 0 kWh
